PlateSpin Orchestrate

PlateSpin Orchestrate
The 'brain' of the data centre automation system is PlateSpin Orchestrate. This is the key component that manages physical computer and virtual resources, controlling the entire lifecycle of each virtual machine. Orchestrate is a third-generation orchestration engine that is built from the ground up to meet the requirements of on-demand computing. It combines the following capabilities:

  • Resource management
  • Job management
  • Dynamic provisioning
  • Policy management
  • Accounting and auditing

In general, competitive products feature a global job scheduler and workload manager to orchestrate 'jobs' across a distributed environment. But to legitimately orchestrate the operations of today's complex, sophisticated data centres, Novell believes it is necessary to have competencies in the five areas listed above.

Novell Buying Programmes
Simple, flexible, customer-focused buying solutions
Buying from Novell has never been easier! The Novell licence agreements have been simplified and improved to help you focus on what matters most - running your business. The Novell buying programmes now include simplified contract rules and improved programme offerings designed to meet your software-buying needs.

Basic Programme Options
Two basic options are available to all Novell customers: Volume License Agreement (VLA) and Master Licence Agreement (MLA). Both the VLA and MLA allow you to purchase perpetual licences - or licences you own, regardless of your contract status with Novell. Both the VLA and MLA include benefits such as multiple Maintenance offerings, indemnification, training, evaluation software and technical support. The VLA or MLA can work for you whether you are a non-profit, government, healthcare or corporate customer.

  • Volume Licence Agreement
The Volume Licence Agreement (VLA) is the most basic tier of the Novell Buying Programmes. With any purchase amount, the VLA provides you with an easy and affordable way to purchase your Novell solutions without the commitment of a signed contract. If you are looking for an easy, transaction-based process with no minimum purchase requirement, the VLA is a perfect fit for you.
    • The Novell VLA for Non-Profit awards special pricing to non-profit organisations who sign the Novell Non-Profit Eligibility Form. Eligibility to purchase under this programme is given to qualified entities. Proof of status may be required upon processing of an order.
    • The Novell VLA for Government awards special pricing to government entities. Eligibility to purchase under this programme is given to qualified entities. Proof of status may be required upon processing of an order.
    • The Novell Academic Buying Programmes award special pricing and benefits to educational customers. Eligibility to purchase under the Academic Licence Agreement (ALA), School License Agreement (SLA), VLA-for-Education or Direct Education Orders (DEO) Programmes is awarded to qualified institutions. Proof of status may be required upon execution of any licensing agreement.
  • Master Licence Agreement
The Master Licence Agreement (MLA) provides discounted licence options to our highest tier customers, rewarding you based on volume spending and commitment. Designed for large, worldwide organisations, the MLA provides a flexible method of implementing Novell systems across your business. By meeting minimum purchase requirements and signing the MLA, you gain access to rewarding benefits unique to the MLA.

Adding value through services
Customers of all types can make annual purchases of Maintenance for access to the latest Novell technologies and product versions. Customers also have the option to purchase Novell services, including Technical Support, Training and Consulting services.

Finding a customised solution
In addition to the VLA or MLA, customers who need special, customised options for large deals are able to negotiate contract terms with Novell. Some of the options may include special financing, product and/or service bundles, multi-year arrangements, vesting rights, subscription-based licensing and more. These special contract changes are generally managed with a contract addendum and can be initiated by the customer, partner or sales representative
