Microsoft will shortly be releasing the next version of SQL Server when there will be a corresponding increase in the pricing of Microsoft's processor licensing

Along with pricing changes, there will be a new premium edition release, SQL Server Datacenter Edition. This new premium edition will allow maximum memory, CPU and virtualisation support.

At the same time there will be changes in SQL Server Enterprise including:

  • Maximum memory of 2TB RAM
  • Up to 8 Procs CPU support
  • Virtualisation rights for 4 VMs - customers with Software Assurance using unlimited virtualisation with SQL Server 2008 EE will have step-up rights to Datacenter Edition.
