All the McAfee licensing options available to you ...
The McAfee Protect Plus Licensing Programme is a volume purchase programme that provides customers with volume based pricing, and McAfee Gold Technical Support.
McAfee offer different licensing scheme rules for different product sets. For the vast majority of products, the Protect Plus Licensing Scheme is used and this guide is intended to walk you through the rules for the main scheme. Please however, be aware that exceptions do exist. These are some examples:
If you are ever in doubt as to the specific scheme that a product falls into, please contact your Phoenix Account Manager. McAfee do not sell specific versions of their software. This is because most software is sold as part of a Product 'Suite' licence that contains multiple solutions. There is no need to look for, as an example, Version 5 of this, or Version 9.6 of that, simply choose the product and purchase the licence, e.g. Total Protection for Endpoint - Advanced.
Order at least 11 nodes of any product to qualify for a new order (note that for managed/hosted/ subscription services the minimum is 2 or 5, and for hardware or server products the minimum is usually 1). If you are ever in doubt as to the minimum order quantity, please contact your Phoenix Account Manager on 0845 265 1265.
The more nodes ordered, the better the price. For the bandings, see the chart below:
| Band | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J |
| Nodes | 11-25 | 26-50 | 51-100 | 101-250 | 251-500 | 501-1,000 | 1,001-2,000 | 2,001-5,000 | 5,001 - 10,000 | 10,000+ |

You can purchase as many support renewals as the quantity of licences you already have. It is possible to consolidate multiple licences bought for the same product over time. If the support expire dates fall within 14 days, then a single renewal can be made for the total licenced quantity you hold. This is referred to as a Support Consolidation.
You can also renew existing support agreements that expire more than 14 days apart by doing a Co-Termination. Please speak to your Phoenix Account Manager for advice on how to proceed in any instances like these.
We refer to this process as a re-order. If you already have a grant number for some licences or support renewals in the ProtectPLUS Programme, lets say 100 Active Virus Defence Licences that were purchased at price band C, you have an entitlement to order additional licences at the same price (band C in this example). You can purchase as few as 5 new licences to take advantage of this facility. This applies to any product or renewal in the licensing scheme.
This allows McAfee to provide consistent and competitive band level pricing for Anti-Virus Solutions based on their largest historic purchase.
There are some rules around this:
McAfee recently simplified the rules around their 'Crossgrade' skus. These skus enable you to convert from one McAfee suite of products to another (e.g. from Active Virus Defence to total Protection Suite). You can now convert any Anti-Virus Suite licence to the new product you want, by using an 'upgrade' sku. The upgrade skus all have one year of Gold Support for the new Suite included.
Upgrade Licences are also part of the ProtectPLUS programme. You can use the 're-order' rules to gain the benefit of the best possible pricing entitlement when doing an upgrade.
These skus enable you to gain a significant discount on new McAfee licences when you are currently using a competitor's comparable Anti-Virus product.
There are some rules around the usage of these skus:
McAfee offer a built in discount if you choose to renew your maintenance for a period of more than one year on selected products. These 2 and 3 year Support Renewal skus are available on many products, but not all of them. There are also some rules around the use of these skus:
Some products are sold as subscription licences instead of perpetual licences. This means that instead of owning a right to use the product forever, you have to subscribe to the service on an annual or bi-annual basis (depending upon whether you choose a 1 or 2 year subscription). At the time of renewal, you can either re-subscribe to the service by purchasing the product again, or walk away and use a different product.
Examples of products that are sold under this scheme are:
Some products are sold as subscription licences instead of perpetual licences. This means that instead of owning a right to use the product forever, you have to subscribe to the service on an annual or bi-annual basis (depending upon whether you choose a 1 or 2 year subscription). At the time of renewal, you can either re-subscribe to the service by purchasing the product again, or walk away and use a different product. To process the renewal, the existing Grant Number is required on the order - this can be found on the Certificate which is issued with the original order or each renewal. If the existing Grant Number is not shown, McAfee will not be able to recognise that you already have an existing subscription in place, possibly resulting in starting a new subscription service.
