NEW! Novell ZENworks Mobile Management

by Val Sinclair 3. August 2012 03:55

Manage both enterprise-owned and personal (BYOD) devices

Do you have a mix of enterprise-owned and personally-owned (BYOD) devices in your organisation? Don't worry - with ZENworks you can effectively manage both.

You are responsible for your organisation's sensitive data - even when it's on a personally-owned device. With as much as 70 percent of your company's intellectual property flowing through email alone, you need a way to secure what users do with free-range devices

Protect your business whether or not you own all the mobile devices in your fleet:

For corporate-owned devices, Novell ZENworks Mobile Management allows IT to control that device absolutely. You can provision a standard set of apps and set access and usage rules for mobile devices that are just as strict as what you enforce for any other corporate device.

For BYOD devices, give users the option to download the ZENworks Mobile Management agent. They accept whatever use policies IT has defined, which means they accept the IT control those policies allow.

Prevent BYOD misuse. If users refuse to sign on to the programme, block their access to corporate resources. Yes, that level of control can diminish productivity for that user. But users who refuse to participate put your company at risk - and BYOD productivity gains are just not significant enough to risk a security breach or a compliance nightmare.

Tablets in the NHS, and we don't mean the ones that make you better!

by Keith Martin 27. June 2012 07:02

Here in the Phoenix Public Sector Team we have over the last year been working with an increasing number of NHS Trusts who are looking at mobile technologies and how they can be used within the workplace. Whether it's a case of Trust-owned Smartphones or indeed doctors making use of tablet devices, the management and the security of these is causing significant problems.

A variety of software vendors have been quick to pick up on these issues and there is now an increasing number of technologies available to assist. For a Trust looking at a 'Bring Your Own Device' (BYOD) policy there are products which can provide security without inhibiting the end user functionality of the employee's own device. These products can be delivered via an App which will allow users to securely access email and documents and, because it is delivered via an App, it can be remotely removed if the user ever leaves the Trust. In addition, many Trusts are also providing Smartphones, iPads etc directly to their employees and they are looking for security technologies to manage these - with these devices being owned by the Trusts, security can be implemented directly on the device and policies on usage (such as camera settings, connectivity to third party devices etc) can be put in place.

Over the coming months Phoenix will be looking to run events to help Trusts get to grips with the security challenges that they face.  However if you have any immediate concerns or if you would like to understand what solutions may be available for you, please do not hesitate to contact the Phoenix Public Sector Team on 0845 265 1265.
