Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) can be used to deliver a full desktop experience, unrestricted by hardware or location
Desktops can be allocated to end users upon request, perhaps to a thin client terminal. Initially authentication to Active Directory is carried out and then a full desktop is delivered to end users - who may not even be aware they are using a virtual machine!
VDI is an attractive concept, not just for existing users of virtualisation technology, but to any organisation struggling to manage end user desktop software and hardware effectively, especially over multiple locations.
