What is Microsoft Office University?
Microsoft Office University 2010 for Windows and Office University 2011 for Mac are products that replace Microsoft Office Professional Academic 2010 and Office Mac 2011. The new product name reflects customer eligibility: Office University 2010 is for higher-education students and higher-education faculty only.
What applications are included in Office University?
Office University 2010 includes the 2010 versions of: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher and Access. Office University 2011 for Mac includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
What are the eligibility requirements for Microsoft Office University?
Eligibility is subject to availability, this offer applies only to eligible students and staff who attend or are employed at an educational institution geographically located in the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man. This offer is non-transferable. One of each product may be purchased per eligible student or member of staff.
The following conditions serve to define student eligibility for the offer:
- The individual must possess a valid e-mail address at a UK educational institution which contains the domain suffix 'ac.uk', 'ac.im', 'ac.gg', 'ac.je' or 'open.ac.uk'
If the domain suffix is 'open.ac.uk' then staff/students do not need to meet the minimum contact and/or working/teaching time requirements outlined below
- If you are a student, you must be enrolled in an education institution geographically located in the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man. If a Higher Education student, you must be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate level course. If a Further Education student, you must have at least 15 hours of scheduled contact time per week for your course
- If you are a member of staff, you must be employed (at least 8 hours or 4 teaching hours/week) at an education institution geographically located in the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man
Microsoft or an appointed vendor may contact you to verify that you are a current student or member of staff. If documentation is not provided indicating that you are a current student or member of staff, you will be liable to reimburse Microsoft for the difference between what you paid and the estimated retail price of the software.
- Internet access is required. The academic verification and redemption process occurs online
- Customers will be subject to the Office University EULA and will be required to agree to the agreement before activating the product
- Each eligible user can verify only one Office University product in a 12-month period
- Microsoft, in their sole discretion, may accept other forms of validation to determine eligibility in lieu of a valid e-mail address when one is not available
Why is Internet Access required?
Internet access is required because the verification process and product key redemption process occur online.
How many licences /installations does Office University allow?
The Office University full package product allows one user to activate one Office suite on up to two PCs or Macs, for use by a single person
Can I return the Microsoft Office University product?
No. There are no refunds or returns on the Microsoft Office University product. This policy applies both to downloaded software and/or physical media.
What is the recommended product for families with K-12 students?
Microsoft Office Home and Student is the recommended product for parents and families with K-12 students.
What is the difference between the DVD and ESD versions of Office University?
The DVD version is a physical boxed product that will be shipped to you via a courier. Once received, you will then need to obtain your product key by accessing the Microsoft verification website. Please see further information below, headed Post Purchase Validation.
The ESD (Electronic Software Download) version is provided by a software download directly from Microsoft's electronic distribution partner eAcademy. No physical DVDs will be provided. Office University does not come with a product key. Your eligibility will be verified online before completing purchase. The product will not work without successful verification as you will not have a product key.

What is the Extended Access Guarantee offered with Office University ESD version?
When you receive your link to download Office University, you are provided with a package called Security Download Manager (SDM). The SDM will allow you to download and begin the installation of Office University.
You have 31 days to access the software. Once you have accessed the software you can burn the files to a CD as a backup and write the key down in a secure place. However an alternative is to purchase Extended Access Guarantee (EAG) for £4.95. This allows 2 years of access to your links, so should you need to download and re-install the software due to a system crash/virus etc, then you have peace of mind that you can still access your software and do not have to make an additional purchase.

What is the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows?
The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a computer's processor (also called a CPU) handles information. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system.
How can I tell if my computer is running a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Windows?
To find out if your computer is running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, do the following:
- Click on the Start button
- Click Control Panel
- Click System and Maintenance
- Click System
- Under System, you can view the system
- Can I run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit computer?
Most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs.
Device drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows won't work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you're trying to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows. Why did I get the error message "the authorization of your download has failed you do not have any usages remaining" and what do I do next?
Your download routine has failed; this may be a system issue or installing a 64-bit option onto a 32-bit PC. Email: student-office@phoenixs.co.uk where we will validate that full download has not taken place and issue further usage links.
Will my software still belong to me when I leave school/employment?
Yes, the licence offered to you by Microsoft is a perpetual licence and does not expire when you cease to be a student or an employee. You can still use the product after you leave school/employment.
When I click on 'Submit' when placing my order nothing happens.

How can I pay for my order, and is it safe to purchase online?
You can buy from the Student Store using your credit or debit card or PayPal and the online transaction is totally safe. We use secure encrypted transmission of your payment details, so no-one can see or record your credit or debit card number. We never store any payment card information.
Are there restrictions on shipping addresses?
Yes, shipping is available to United Kingdom addresses only. Electronic Download of Office University can be provided to members within the EEC.
What is a PIN and why is it required?
A PIN is a unique 27-character alphanumeric code used to verify that Microsoft Office was purchased at a participating retailer. Customers will go to www.office.com/verify to exchange their PIN for a Microsoft Office Product Key. A PIN can only be used once to obtain a Product Key.
Where do I find my PIN?
The PIN is printed on a separate Instruction Card located inside your Microsoft Office University package.
Is a PIN the same thing as a Product Key?
No. A PIN is used to verify that Microsoft Office was purchased at a participating retailer and is used to obtain a Product Key. An Office Product Key is used to install, activate and use Office products. You cannot use a PIN to install Office.
My PIN is not working, what should I do?
If your PIN is not working, try the following:
- Verify the PIN was entered correctly. PIN is not case sensitive and is alpha-numeric
- Make sure the PIN has not already been used to obtain an Office Product Key. A PIN can only be used once to obtain a Product Key. If the PIN has already been used, you can log into your account with your Windows Live ID (if you established it when the PIN was first entered) to access your Product Key or you can check your email for the confirmation email you received when the PIN was first consumed to access your Product Key

What is a Product Key?
A Product Key is a unique 25-character alphanumeric code required to install and activate Microsoft Office. It is used to verify that your software is legitimate.
Why do I need a Product Key?
Product Keys are used to install, activate, reinstall or repair your Office programs. It is important to keep your Product Keys in a safe place.
Should I use my existing Windows Live Account or create a new one?
Using your existing Windows Live account or creating a new account will allow you to access your Office Product Key at any time online in the future. It is important to use an account and password that you are familiar with to allow you to obtain easy access to your information and to receive email confirmation that will include your Product Key.
Will you send me an email confirmation with my Product Key?
Yes. An email containing your Office Product Key will be sent to the email address associated with your Windows Live ID or to the email that you provided if you skipped account setup.
Note: If you are using an email spam blocker tool or junk mail filter, make sure that you can receive
email messages from microsoft.co.uk.
What happens if I lose my Office Product Key?
If you lose your Office Product Key you can return to www.office.com/verify and sign in using the 'Sign In' link in the top right corner of the page. This will retrieve your Office Product Key if you set up your account with your Windows Live ID. If you did not set up a Windows Live ID account initially there is no record of your Product Key online. Check your email as this is the only record of your Product Key.
