Women in IT – Alix Stembrowicz

Next in our series of ‘Women in IT’ blogs is Alix Stembrowicz a Project Manager from the Phoenix Project Management Team…

How long have you been in the industry?

I have been in the IT industry for seven and a half years.

What roles have you held?

Financial Services Assistant, Microsoft Licensing Specialist, Sales Support, Project Co-ordinator and Project Manager.

How long at Phoenix?

Six and a half years.

What made you choose IT?

The IT industry is a safe industry to work in. It’s an industry that’s always going to be needed and is always evolving so it’s a very safe and secure path to choose.

Did you face any challenges when starting out in the industry?

As with any role, it’s always challenging when you first start. The main difference and challenges with IT are all the terminology and acronyms. There are so many to learn but eventually it started sinking in!

What changes have you seen in the industry and Phoenix over the years?

The most obvious change is the Cloud, I had no idea what this was initially, but it was something that was mentioned a lot when I first started in IT. It took a while for me to figure out exactly what it was.

Phoenix is constantly evolving to move with the times and updating products and services to meet customer needs which is why I think Phoenix is such a successful company.

What can be done to encourage more women into IT?

Making women realise that we’re more accepted in IT, now more than ever before and that it’s not as scary as it may seem on the surface. It’s the same with any career, what you don’t know you can learn.
