We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint by conserving energy, minimizing waste, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Nothing happens in isolation; everything is connected and small changes lead to significant impact.
We embed environmental and social values into everything we do through robust governance of our own operations, partners, and suppliers.
Our commitment to sustainability
Through our environmental business models and staff network groups, we are dedicated to driving change within our industry, working with our partners and supply chain to support our customers on their journey to sustainable outcomes.
By 2026 we aim to reduce our operational scope 1, 2, and 3* emissions by 50%
We are committed to using renewable energy sources, but also invest in energy efficient heating and lighting, increasing our waste recycling and reducing our water usage.

We will reduce our emissions by embedding circular economy procurement, minimising business travel, and employee commute, and influencing others in our supply chain to change behaviours to minimise their impact on the environment.
** Including other Scope 3 emissions for Purchased Goods, Capital Goods, Fuel and Energy related activities (Electricity T&D), Upstream T&D, Business Travel, Employee Commuting, Use of sold products, End of life treatment of sold products.

Our action and impact so far
From 2022 we have invested in global gold standard carbon removals and avoidance credits to support environmental projects against emissions generated against our business operations.
For FY26 we continue to work with Ecologi but have aligned to our public sector customer base, investing in UK based carbon removals alongside nature based projects aligned to SBTi guidance to ensure credibility.

Phoenix Environmental Policy
Phoenix Software is dedicated to an Environmental Policy that ensures that its operations and activities remain sustainable. We believe in the concept of a customer and supplier working together in pursuing this policy and in the continual striving for improvements in environmental impact and sustainability.
Our Environmental Policy is based on three fundamental principles:
- Understanding our environmental impact through analysis of existing and future operations and outputs
- Continually reviewing and improving our operations and processes to reduce our environmental impact without effecting service quality
- Working with our customers and supply chain to create sustainable partnerships
Phoenix Carbon Reduction Plan
By assessing the environmental impact across multiple areas of our business through our low carbon action plan we can monitor the progress towards our key sustainability goals. Our key reduction actions include:
- Energy: Utilising 100% renewable energy through investment in solar generating c.40% of our energy requirements and topped up with REGO certified renewable energy suppliers. Reduced energy usage throughout buildings with LED and motion sensor lighting.
- Travel: Employee EV staff scheme and providing free EV charging for all employees and visitors to use.
- Waste: Minimise waste through zero-to-landfill disposal, recycling, food separation, IT reuse, sustainable packaging and staff campaigns.
- Water: Reduce water use through efficient fixtures, leak checks, rainwater capture, and water-conscious site refurbishments.
- Supply-chain: Supplier education and engagement to support sustainable procurement for ourselves and for our customers.
ISO Standards and Environmental Accreditations
Our environmental certifications show our commitment to environmentally sustainable, socially responsible, and ecologically conscious actions. By following strict environmental criteria and applying sustainable methods throughout our activities, we are helping to protect the earth and create a more sustainable future for everyone.
The latest scientifical research around our climate has demonstrated that it is still possible to limit the expected global temperature rise of 1.5⁰C. However, we are unfortunately still moving steadily towards potential tipping points. Within the Bytes Group, both Bytes Software Services and Phoenix Software care about the environment and are taking our collective responsibilities seriously.
As part of our journey to Net Zero, we have taken an important step in committing to have our carbon reduction targets and Net Zero goals submitted to the Science Based Targets initiative. This step is vital to make sure we are in-line with efforts to limit global warming to 1.5⁰C. SBTi is recognised as the world’s leading organisation for driving the achievement of climate action plans within organisations, so the alignment to SBTi is a big step in reconfirming our pledge to continue working towards our sustainability aspirations.
Collective action is needed to be able to reach these targets and ensure we have a sustainable future for ourselves, our families, and those that come after us, and we all need to play a part in this journey.
