As part of our commitment, we are also working closely with our customers on their sustainability strategies and have developed our Sustainability App to support them, which has been recognised at this year’s CRN Tech Impact Awards as the Sustainable Solution/ Service of the Year.

CRN comments on the judges’ decision: “The winner of this heavily entered category drew plaudits for its sustainability app, which the judges variously branded ‘clever’, ‘smart’, and ‘a great tool for local authorities’. They felt its decision to focus on its core public sector market, and on aligning its offering with Microsoft’s technology, was also a shrewd move…”

How we’re making a difference to our communities and planet

Environmental
Through our environmental business model and low carbon action plan we will reduce – and when unavoidable, replace – our operational carbon emissions.

Social
By supporting our employees and delivering increased social impact for our customers, we aim to improve the lives of communities through our volunteering and digital skills initiatives.

Governance
With robust governance of our business practices and supply chain we will ensure compliance and risk mitigation over our actions to minimise our impact on the environment.

Financial
Through transparency and widespread engagement we will change the approach of our Board, employees, investors, partners, and suppliers and implement customer solutions for the future of our planet.

Our commitment to sustainability

By 2026 we aim to maintain 100% operational scope 1, and 2

We are committed to using 100% renewable energy sources, including generating solar energy and minimising usage with efficient heating and lighting,

We are targeting to reduce our Scope 3 emissions by 50% by 2030 (from 2022/23 baseline)**

We will reduce our emissions by embedding circular economy procurement, minimising business travel,  employee commutes, and influencing others in our supply chain to change behaviours to minimise their impact on the environment.

** Including emissions for Purchased Goods, Capital Goods, Fuel and Energy related activities (Electricity T&D), Upstream T&D, Business Travel, Employee Commuting, Use of sold products, End of life treatment of sold products.

We aim to be Net Zero by 2040

While we work hard to reduce emissions we invest in Gold Standard Certified carbon credits against our business activity emissions to support impactful climate solutions. For FY 23/ 24 we also invested in carbon removal credits to offset customer and partner travel to our events, ensuring that these emissions have been removed for true offsetting.

Our action and impact so far

Our investments include in gold standard carbon removal projects generating clean energy, and have avoided 1,593 tCO2e to date.

Our carbon reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

As part of our journey to Net Zero, we have taken an important step in committing to having our carbon reduction targets and Net Zero goals validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. This step is vital to make sure we are in-line with efforts to limit global warming to 1.5⁰C.

As of July 2024, Phoenix Software is delighted to announce that our carbon reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as being in line with a 1.5°C trajectory and conforming to the SBTi Corporate Net Zero Standard. This is a significant milestone, reflecting our continual commitment to Net Zero.

SBTi is recognised as the world’s leading organisation for driving the achievement of climate action plans within organisations, so the alignment to SBTi is a big step in reconfirming our pledge to continue working towards our sustainability aspirations.

Clare Metcalfe, Managing Director at Phoenix Software, is thrilled about the recognition, “We recognise the critical importance of taking decisive action to combat climate change. Achieving our Scope 1 and Scope 2 targets by reducing emissions to 0 tCO2e in the last reporting year is a significant milestone and a testament to our commitment. These steps are crucial as they not only contribute to our overarching goal of reaching Net Zero, but also demonstrate the positive impact that dedicated efforts can have. By aligning our initiatives with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and reducing our carbon footprint, we are setting a strong example for our industry and helping to drive collective action towards a more sustainable future.”

Collective action is needed to be able to reach these targets and ensure we have a sustainable future for ourselves, our families, and those that come after us, and we all need to play a part in this journey.

Supporting CDP

CDP is a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for companies to manage their environmental impacts. We believe environmental transparency and accountability are vital for tracking progress towards a sustainable future.

As the global environmental disclosure system, CDP is dedicated to building the foundations for a thriving and sustainable economy and greatly appreciates the support of Bytes Technology Group Plc in our efforts to continue driving transparency and corporate environmental action.

The situation is urgent, and the global community must act now to ensure that we limit global warming to 1.5C. Disclosure is the first key step in addressing current and future environmental risks through standardized, comparable data. Bytes Technology Group Plc has shown its commitment to transparency around its environmental impacts and strategies for action by disclosing through CDP in 2023.

Regular disclosure drives climate action and so we look forward to Bytes Technology Group Plc sharing their environmental data for years to come.
