Craig Taylor, previously Phoenix’s Director of Cloud Solutions, is now the Chief Technology Officer! Hear his outlook on our future, one defined and shaped by AI and purpose-driven innovation …
“Today, I officially step into the role of Chief Technology Officer at Phoenix. Having been with Phoenix for over ten years and having joined the Phoenix Board of Directors in 2024, it’s a privilege to follow in the footsteps of Darren Goldsborough, whose 24-year tenure helped shape Phoenix into the dynamic, customer-centric organisation it is today.
As CTO, I’m excited to lead Phoenix’s IT services business into a future that will be defined and shaped by AI and purpose-driven innovation. We serve thousands of public sector organisations across the UK and with our breadth of services capability and the long-standing trusted partnerships we have with them, together we can achieve something remarkable together. With the technology at our disposal, executed in the right way, we can play our part in helping the nation become a leader in AI.
The Office of the CTO

- Drive thought leadership in emerging areas like AI, cyber security, and cloud transformation in addition to the core capabilities and cost optimisation organisations need to maximise modern technology
Our IT Services business is evolving and growing rapidly to meet the demands of an ever-changing market, with most of our staff now delivering in a form of technically focussed role. We hold the highest levels of accreditations and competencies with the world’s largest technology companies, working alongside them and our customers – the focus is clear: deliver scalable, relevant services that deliver measurable value and trusted partnerships.
Some of our key priorities include:
- Artificial intelligence: building on our full stack of AI capability across pro-code, low-code, Microsoft Copilot, GRC and end user adoption services. As one of the UK’s leading AI partners, we will expand our services to continually address sector specific needs
- Maximise our unique experience and capabilities across on prem, hybrid and cloud platforms: with decades of experience building infrastructure and navigating many technology shifts across organisations datacentre estate, we are well placed to help organisations modernise applications, infrastructure and integrate AI, Security and data services depending on their specific needs
- Cyber security: our breadth and depth of Security capability is developing rapidly from the high bar we have set ourselves; we will continue our aim to be the leading UK based cyber security services partner, working with a broad range of global security vendors
- Managed services expansion: building end-to-end lifecycle services that transition seamlessly from IT projects to ongoing support for organisations we partner with, addressing the skills shortage and allowing organisations to focus on their business priorities
Our customers are at the heart of everything we do. Whether its supporting organisations bolster their security postureor helping a university navigate complex AI strategy decisions, our approach is rooted in empathy, expertise, and execution.
As a top 10 Great Places to Work certified organisation for a large company, culture is key to our success. The collaboration we have across teams from technical pre-sales, delivery and managed services, is essential to our success. We will continue to invest in talent development through leadership coaching, technical certifications, and innovation challenges and one that empowers every team member to contribute to our mission.”
