Intelligence at speed 

Intelligence analysts face an overwhelming data challenge. Reports from multiple sources (satellite imagery, signals and human intelligence, etc) all need correlating, often against tight deadlines. Copilot’s ability to rapidly compare information from large datasets is proving invaluable. Analysts are using it to identify patterns across intelligence reports, generate summary briefs that would typically take hours, and even flag inconsistencies that humans might miss under time pressure. 

The potential time savings are significant. By streamlining the process of compiling and cross-referencing information for a brief, analysts can dedicate more time to reviewing their findings and sharing critical insights with colleagues. This not only maintains the high standards required for defence operations, but also enables them to move efficiently onto the next vital task, ensuring their time is used where needed most. 

Mission planning documentation 

Military operations generate mountains of paperwork, and unfortunately, the admin involved can delay decision-making when speed is critical. Copilot excels at generating first-draft documentation based on templates and previous operations. 

The real value emerges when Copilot assists with scenario planning. “What if” questions that previously required manual research can now be explored rapidly, helping commanders consider multiple courses of action before committing resources. 

Secure internal communications 

Defence organisations can’t simply plug into the standard Copilot cloud service. The data sovereignty and security requirements are non-negotiable. But when properly implemented within environments, Copilot can significantly improve internal communications. 

Personnel can query historical project documentation, locate subject matter experts, or find relevant policy documents without searching through SharePoint, strictly across data they have rights to access. This ensures that security, compliance, and confidentiality are maintained at all levels. 

Training and simulation support 

Defence training relies on realistic scenario-based exercises. Copilot is being used to generate exercise injects, create realistic but fictional intelligence products for training purposes, and even help design complex multi-phase training scenarios. This allows training teams to create more sophisticated exercises without increasing prep time.
