Team Phoenix takes on the Yorkshire Three Peaks for Yorkshire Air Ambulance
On Saturday 5 September, a team from Phoenix walked the Yorkshire Three Peaks, covering almost 25 miles and climbing more than 1,500 metres. They finished in times ranging from 8 to 11 hours. So far, the challenge has raised £2,342 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, with donations still coming in.
An early start
The team set off at 6.30am, tackling Pen-y-Ghent first while the morning was still cool. It’s the shortest of the three peaks, but no easy warm-up. Spirits were high, and the views from the top made the early alarm worth it.
Ingleborough, the hardest of the three
Ingleborough has a reputation, and it’s well earned. The final ascent feels almost vertical in places, and by mile 17, legs are tired and the climb ahead looks daunting. Reaching the summit felt like it should be the end.
It wasn’t. There were still 4.5 miles to go.
Crossing the finish line
Times ranged from 8 to 11 hours across the team, each one a personal effort against genuinely difficult terrain and changeable weather. Almost 25 miles, over 1,500 metres of climbing, sunshine, rain, wind and a finish line that felt fully earned.
Why this challenge, why this cause
The team chose Yorkshire Air Ambulance because their work matters to people across the region Phoenix calls home. It’s a charity that relies on public support and responds when it counts most.
