INVESTING IN THE NEXT GENERATION

MICRO-TYCO FOR SCHOOLS

Phoenix has partnered with the WildHearts Group – the UK’s leading B2B social business – which donates 100% of its profits to the registered charity, the WildHearts Foundation, to help fund its innovative Micro-Tyco programme in schools.

What is Micro-Tyco?

Micro-Tyco is an award-winning, interdisciplinary enterprise programme for school pupils. It enables participants to learn and practice fundamental business concepts in a safe, micro-environment. By receiving £1 from WildHearts, and being challenged to grow it into as much money as possible, participants ‘become Entrepreneurs to fund Entrepreneurs’ (because all profits help fund WildHearts micro-loans in developing countries) and receive a deep experiential knowledge of the transformative power of compassionate entrepreneurship.

What are the benefits of Micro-Tyco?

Micro-Tyco inspires an entrepreneurial environment that fosters creative thinking, resourcefulness and team work as well as helping pupils to develop financial literacy, communication, leadership, project management and networking skills.

As well as teaching key skills to participants, Micro-Tyco helps raise the aspirations of the school pupils taking part. It inspires them with the idea of starting their own business one day while also embedding employability skills and creating invaluable links with future employers. Micro-Tyco has already directly helped young people into work.

Participants of Micro-Tyco don’t just develop business skills – they become commercialised, confident, resilient and ready for the world of work. 60% of Micro-Tyco participants identified as Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET) have gone into employment after taking part.

By taking part in Micro-Tyco senior pupils can learn how business can be a force for good and gain experience that enhances their personal statement and CV. Students are also provided with the chance to secure work experience with leading employers such as Deloitte and Barclays, with WildHearts offering the benefits of their vast network of business partners. Since 2016, nearly 500 Micro-Tyco students have secured work experience placements with top employers across the UK.

95% of Barclays participants said Micro-Tyco improved their commercial, innovation and entrepreneurial skills.

Award Winning

The ‘Micro-Tyco Method’ and its combination of inspiration, knowledge and networks is so effective that WildHearts was awarded the ‘Social Innovator Award’ from Babson College, the world’s top school for entrepreneurship. It is also used by some of the world’s leading companies to identify and attract young talent.

Delivering Micro-Tyco

Thanks to its sponsors such as Phoenix, the Micro-Tyco programme is free of charge for participating schools. Micro-Tyco can run as a stand-alone 4-week challenge or incorporated into classes as part of an 8-week Programme of Learning, using interactive resources and lesson plans provided by WildHearts. The challenge runs in February and November and is most suitable for year groups 5-13. Schools can enter as many teams as they like with a maximum of 5 pupils per team.

APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

Phoenix believes in investing in our young people and apprenticeships are an integral part of that ethos. Our apprenticeship scheme offers a valuable alternative career path to college or university and gives young education leavers opportunities to join the company and build a fantastic future for themselves. We often recruit school leavers into various teams and through formal training and development give them the opportunity to grow and develop a prosperous career in Phoenix.

WORKING WITH CHARITIES

CHARITY COMMITTEE

The Phoenix Charity Committee coordinates all of our fundraising schemes and events and manages our charity partnerships. We formed the committee to increase our charitable activities and deliver more social value for our community and our customers.

VOLUNTEER DAYS

It’s Phoenix policy to provide one day’s paid annual leave per year for our employees to perform voluntary work for a charity or charitable cause.

SHELTER

Phoenix has formed a partnership with Shelter, a charity that campaigns to end homelessness and bad housing in the UK. Homelessness is a national crisis, with the number of people sleeping rough each night more than doubling since 2010.

As part of our social mission to give back to our communities and our society, we are striving over the coming year to raise funds and awareness for this important cause. We believe that everybody has the right to the safety, comfort and dignity of a decent home to live in.

MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

Phoenix is proud to be a sponsor of the annual Macmillan Raceday at York Races. We will provide funding for their raffle including all cash prizes and printing costs.
