Data Backup
Minimise any downtime and prevent data loss
Backing up your organisations data is a fundamental requirement to ensure that should an outage happen for any reason, you can continue to run as normal, returning to a point in time – usually just before the outage happened.
A backup is simply a copy of all or part of your organisations data, that is stored separately from the originating place of the data; this can be stored locally, offsite or both and is typically linked to an organisations disaster recovery (DR) strategy. A ‘snapshot’ of this data is copied anywhere from once, to several times a day so that in the event of an outage, you can restore all of the data from that point backwards. Backups can be copied singular applications, your physical environment, your virtual environment or your cloud environment.
Phoenix work with a select number of backup vendors that can partner with your organisation to find a solution for you. We typically backup your data in these ways:
A backup appliance is a hardware device that is preinstalled with backup management software, storage drives and all other administrative systems. Benefits of a backup appliance include cost savings as they work with ageing infrastructure and reduce the complications of managing backups yourself.
Cloud-to-cloud backup is essentially backing up data stored on one cloud backup service (like Microsoft Azure) to another. This can be done natively or by using a third-party tool. Benefits of using cloud-to-cloud backup are that it can scale dramatically if you use a lot of data, it can be licensed based on consumption which can cut costs and, again, it works with ageing environments.
Backup-as-a-Service (BUaaS) removes the headache of looking through and trialing backup solutions for your organisation. A service like this can be designed specifically for your organisation, it can work side by side with your DR strategy and frees up time within your IT department to prioritise other projects.
All of the above information is important to know when considering your backup solution, but it is just as important to continually manage your backups. You will need to test them as part of your DR strategy and consider them as part of your wider business continuity (BC) strategy. Running test restores every so often will allow you to test timings and restore points that work best for your organisation.
Phoenix have over 30 years’ history of working with market leading backup vendors like Veeam, Veritas, Rubrik, Commvault, Arcserve, Druva, iLand, Skykick and Barracuda – just to name a few. We can work together to deploy licenses or physical appliances to ensure your data is backed up by whichever method suits your environment best.
Phoenix also partner with Harbour to offer Backup-as-a-Service (BUaaS) if your organisation does not have the ability to deploy or manage your backup solution in house.
